Interview with Prof. Vayena regarding the Responsible Digital Health Innovation Roadmap

How can regulation keep pace with technological development?

This week, Professor Effy Vayena was interviewed by ETH News to discuss recommendations for policymakers published in the Responsible Digital Health Innovation Roadmap.

Beyond highlighting the urgent need for a more agile regulatory environment, the reccomendations in this roadmap propose the establishment of a "Competence Center for Digital Health." This center would act as a hub for collaboration between regulators, engineers, and scientists, allowing for early engagement in product development and facilitating experimental testing. This would not only speed up the approval process but also ensure that ethical standards are integrated from the outset.

As Professor Vayena emphasized in the interview - "We need an efficient market access process that adapts quickly." With such a center and ability, Switzerland could position itself as a leader in responsible digital health innovation, ultimately benefiting patients and reducing healthcare costs.
