Prof. Vayena at Tech25
25 - 27 May 2025 – ETH Zurich participated in the inaugural TECH Conference by Handelsblatt. TECH brings together visionaries, industry leaders, and policymakers to explore how Europe can lead global innovation while navigating today’s challenges and opportunities.

Prof. Effy Vayena recently participated in a panel discussion at TECH 2025 in Heilbronn, Germany. This conference, which took place from May 25th to 27th, aimed to strengthen Europe's technological competitiveness by convening leaders from technology, industry, politics, and academia. Discussions at TECH 2025 covered topics such as artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, biotech, space exploration, and Europe’s technological sovereignty in the face of global competition.
Prof. Vayena's panel, "Healing with Data – Inside the Medical Data Revolution," featured speakers Heyo K. Kroemer, André T. Nemat, and Michael Sen, and was moderated by Ina Karabasz.
The discussion addressed issues facing healthcare:
- Pressure on Healthcare Systems: The panel discussed the strain on healthcare resources due to demographic shifts.
- Innovation in Digital Health and AI: A focus was placed on opportunities for digital health solutions and artificial intelligence to improve patient care.
- Ethical and Equitable Digitalization: The discussion explored how to implement digitalization in health ethically and equitably. This included fair access to new technologies and responsible use of health data.
Prof. Vayena's participation highlights the Health Ethics & Policy Lab's involvement in discussions regarding the integration of technology in healthcare.
