Navigating Ethics in Health AI: Going from principles to practice

Day 2 of the workshop delved into the ethical dimensions of AI in healthcare, emphasizing themes of privacy, data protection, and the overarching ethical challenges in deploying artificial intelligence. Elettra Ronchi, a WHO/Europe Consultant, addressed the delicate balance between safeguarding privacy and leveraging AI's potential in health research. Marcello Ienca explored the governance of brain data, unraveling current regulations and ongoing debates.

The afternoon session, led by Alessandro Blasimme from ETH Zurich, spotlighted key ethical issues in AI, including bias, explainability, and trustworthiness. Discussions ensued on the integration of AI into clinical practice and its impact on the doctor-patient relationship. The day concluded with a focus on emerging codes of practice and toolkits for ethically aligned AI governance. Speakers Mikael Jensen and Sara Kijewski then shared insights into available instruments for ethical AI, shedding light on Denmark's 'D-seal' strategy alongside patterns, trends, and implementation challenges.
